This is a astounding movie that follows the adventures of Kirikou, a precocious infant who saves his village, outwits his foes, and befriends all. Born into a village apparently cursed by the Sorceress Karaba, Kirikou sets out to undo her mischief and understand the reason for her unpleasant. Like Kate Dicamillo’s character Despereaux, Kirikou is a hero who belies his petite stature, using it to his advantage with brash bravado. While many of the themes – overcoming obstacles, how propoganda can be mature to oppress – are universal, there is a obvious flavor of African memoir and folk-tale. That being said, I am not obvious if this is an authentic folk-tale, or impartial a well-crafted imitation of one. Either map, it is appetizing.

In terms of the animation, dialog, and music, everything is qualified. There is a miniature disparity between the english-language track and the english subtitles, though nothing distracting. One brand on the animation: this film is authentic to its region in Africa. That is, young children are drawn nude, and women topless. Thus, this is an authentic depiction of people of a situation – reflect National Geographic, if you have no other reference. Thus, if natural, non-titillating depictions of semi-nudity gain you uneasy (particularly if watching with your children), then you might want to pre-view this one first. That being said, there is nothing sexy here – Sailor Moon is far more over the top.

In summary, I feel that this is an reliable film and highly recommend viewing it.

This is a extraordinary film, that can be enjoyed equally by parents and children. Kirikou is a puny and precocious boy who never lets prejudice regain in the contrivance of his fierce determination to protect his people from an gross sorceress. He is driven by curiosity and courage but also admits his gain feelings of vulnerability; he is a amazing example to children, a distinguished more compelling hero than most of the whiny characters that dominate most Hollywood animation. Whether or not it is a stale folktale, it captures the feel of many of the African folk legends I have heard, and depicts a vibrant culture that is both suffused with ordinary magic and yet deeply human. The animation of this comical and touching film is both simple and delicious, a perfect match for the legend.

What is perhaps most engrossing is that it is an example of the kind of epic so prevalent among folk legends that indicate how old-fashioned societies are aware of the dangers of fixed traditions and inaugurate to the possibility of recent ideas. There is a longstanding prejudice within cultures based on change and “progress” that conventional cultures are backwards and unable to accommodate appropriate change — in this fable (and in fact in many broken-down folk stories), this plight is faced and dealt with from an internal standpoint — in other words, this anecdote is about how change can be accommodated within aged societies and how such change can be encouraged by veteran storytelling, and that such change does not require a rejection of tradition. Criticisms of dogmatism are embraced within this anecdote, that depicts many of the tribal people as resisting inquiry and assuming they already know what is best even when their faded methods of trying to defeat the enemy in battle are no longer working. The wise persons of this anecdote are the young Kirikou — too young to pick he already knows how things work and how to solve problems, and young enough to ask questions and be willing to learn from one who will actually retort his questions rather than merely brush them aside — and his wise grandfather — who, it is critical, has left the village to live by himself on the mountain. It is also necessary that the young Kirikou’s main quest is not to defeat the gross sorceress but to understand what has made her outrageous. It is only by concept (and even empathizing with) the enemy that he can defeat her –an valuable lesson even for our possess petrified times, paunchy of ignorance and of the arrogance that assumes war (and the resistance of change even where the area quo is unsettling) is the only solution to incomprehensible threats. At its heart, this is a epic about how the villagers learn to obtain current wisdom, from the mouth of a child and of an elder who has gone beyond status-seeking pride.

This anime is place in the 60′s, true in the midst of the political rise of communism. In the same guise as the red anxiety, Studio Gonzo brings us Gate Keepers, a memoir in Japan about teenage high schoolers who fight sunglass-wearing aliens known as Invaders. And yes, like the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, these Invaders meld into ordinary human beings, objective like you and me.

It’s a comic view, but the series shows this theme surprisingly well. This is a flashy anime that uses chilly spy-gadgetry, such as a Japanese tour bus that turns into a tank, frosty 60′s automobiles, choppers and robots. Not only does it examine helpful, but the theme is especially strong. This anime shows us how life isn’t really about being the best, but about working to succor the people you cherish.

While this anime might not have the emotional impact of Evangelion (it would be really, really hard to approach that level anyway), this is a strong series that I especially like. Most importantly, the anime is a large anime for teenagers, because it touches on issues that they can really connect with. There is Kurogane, the glasses-wearing lower-class girl who is jealous of the top girl in class, Ruriko. There is the faulty Gate Keeper, who uses his ambition and safe looks to crush other people. And there is tons of manipulation reach the ruin.

I don’t always like the intense tragedy portrayed in Evangelion and Fullmetal Alchemist all the time, so “Gate Keepers” is the perfect anime for me when I want cheery high schooler action. It is not the best, and the ending plays out more like an ultra-dramatic version of “Beauty and the Beast”. However, it is detached a respectable series that holds up well.

Gonzo’s anime can never disappoint its fans. This location of anime can justify advanced technology in anime production skillfully in a 1960′s background and level-headed harmonic. The mask and whatever are techonlogical. On the other hand, you can win that the buildings, etc in the cartoon are the 60′s style. Even the enemy is the 60′s style too. This is very cute because the face, etc of them seem to be obsolete but their intention to be shown is computerized technologically. Yarn is arresting. I cannot imagine who can resist from watching to the waste.

The sequel is keen. The fable is rather surprising.

That is the moment in this film that made me shout. This is not the singing and dancing shirly temple, it shows her acting range and is a tantalizing portrait of a girl in pains.

Rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sara, played by Shirley Temple, is sent by her father to a boarding school. He is her only surviving parent. He tells her to remain strong. He says that, on her birthday, he will assume of her at a specific hour, and he tells her to do that same at that hour. She does this.

So long as the father’s wealth is relevant, the girl is treated well. She is treated to a lavish birthday party. But when news comes of her father’s death in the Boer War, however, the party is stopped immediately, and she is henceforth treated as the lowest of servants. Other girls laugh at her. In a moment of rage, Sara dumps a bucket of coal-ashes over the head of one of her tormentors.

Sara never believes that her father is actually wearisome. Others try to convince her to “come by reality.” She makes many desperate trips to a wounded-men’s shelter in hopes of finding her father. The headmaster of the school realizes that Sara is skipping out of school.

The father indeed is not stupid, but he is either wounded or very ill. He is in some sort of coma, and is unable to identify himself. There is no other identification on him. All the hospital staff can say about him is the fact that he keeps repeated the word, “Sara”.

The suspense builds. Will Sara encounter and identify him before he is shipped away? Sara eventually gets an audience before Queen Victoria and begs that the entire premises be searched for her father. The Queen agrees, and gives the order for this to consume site. Sara gets to interrogate every ward in the hospital. Meanwhile, her semi-comatose father is about to be taken away in an ambulance to another institution. At one point, they pass within a few feet of each other, unawares.

Sara’s father is wheeled into a waiting room for the next ambulance. Sarah goes into hiding in the waiting room when she hears the headmaster and the police seeking her. At that point, Sara hears the word “Sara” uttered by her semi-comatose father. What happens next is a tear-jerker.

To have these three classics for this indecent impress is fabulous. One film is the 1938 version of the classic Christmas Carol this one starring Reginald Owen as a very good Scrooge. If you can refrain from comparing him to Alastair Sim, you will be better able to relish another interpretation of Scrooge, and it is a heavenly one. Owen is truly miserly and melancholy, as befits Scrooge, and very believable. The overall production is fabulous, the only drawback was the casting of Terry Kilburn as Exiguous Tim…Draw over the top, to the point where he is annoying. But all in all, a large version, and Ann Rutherford as the Ghost of Christmas Past is absorbing.

Christmas in Connecticut is very satisfying; a staunch recent England Christmas, with Barbara Stanwyck in one of her lighter roles. This is luscious for those who are alone over the Holidays and a immense film to ogle with family for those who will have a feeble Holiday, with family and friends.

I saved the best for last…Boys Town.

This is absolutely one of my all-time favorites, with Mickey Rooney in one of his definitve, cocky wise-guy roles. No one could touch a Mickey Rooney performance in this type of role; he cornered the brash market…as he proves in this movie. It is a precise treat to seek him interact with Spencer Tracy, THE finest actor Hollywood has ever produced, IMO. He has dignity, he commands respect simply by virtue of his occupy calm, firm presence.

The other boys were spacious complements to the production; all very natural, and Bobs Watson particularly heart-breaking in his role; what a large actor he was! (If you can come by a copy, examine him with Cedric Hardwicke and Lionel Barrymore in “On Borrowed Time”, a True tear-jerker.)

I wish I could have been on the site of this one! They must have had a ball. When I saw it, as a child, I idea it was a movie, therefore fantasy, and not real; when I found out that Father Flanagan was indeed valid, as was Boys Town, it gave the movie even more of a dimension and interest. His tenet, “There is no such thing as a unpleasant boy”, is touching in its simplicity and pure, simple faith. Father Flanagan’s secret for success with even the most recalcitrant youth was this faith and his refusal to come by any boy’s lack of self-esteem or conception in himself; with FF ALL things were possible.

When Spencer Tracy was voted best Actor at the Academy Awards that year, he became the first actor to gain the award two years in a row…the first was for his portion as Manuel, in “Captains Gallant.” Being the favorable, fabulous man he was, he celebrated his award with rude humility, and gave it to Father Flanagan, whom he highlighted in his acceptance speech.

This movie has drama, excitement and some very droll moments and shows the unbelievable versatility of a very young Mickey Rooney. A truly sizable bewitch.

The Classic Holiday Collection is a large one – “Boys Town,” “A Christmas Carol,” and, especially, the honorable “Christmas In Connecticut” are all movies that you can luxuriate in year after year.

I unbiased wish they had also included “The Man Who Came To Dinner” (Bette Davis, Monty Wooley, Ann Sheridan) and “Holiday Affair” (Janet Leigh, Robert Mitchum), two other beloved holiday films that Warners owns. Throw in the tall “Cherish Finds Andy Hardy,” which has a holiday setting and is already out on DVD, and maybe a disc of Christmas cartoons, and Warners could converse a second holiday collection. (Please do!)

“Christmas In Connecticut” has been a common holiday movie of mine since the early `80s, when I caught it by chance for the first time on a local situation while relaxing during a holiday visit to my parents’ house. Although my mom, brother, and I hadn’t really planned to study a whole movie honest then, we all stayed with this big movie until the demolish, and really enjoyed it. The wry humor, the tremendous actors (Barbara Stanwyck, Sydney Greenstreet, S.Z. Sakall, Dennis Morgan, Reginald Gardner, Una O’Connor), and the warm country setting construct it a movie you’ll want to observe over and over. Since that first viewing almost 25 years ago, I probably haven’t missed seeing it during the holiday season. I’ve been waiting for this to appear on DVD, and am elated it’s finally here!

“Boys Town” stars two of the greatest actors of the golden era of Hollywood, Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy, and their parts in this movie are among their best roles. “Boys Town” doesn’t have quite as stop a connection to Christmas as the other two titles in this collection (there’s one scene state on the holiday), but this moral tale of a priest who builds a boarding school for insecure youth is one that will warm your heart. Tracy plays Father Flanagan, a kind, socially conscious priest who can be tough when he needs to be, and Mickey Rooney displays his wide-ranging acting talent (from tough talk to tears) as one of the neglected boys whom Flanagan sets on the accurate path.

The 1938 version of “A Christmas Carol” is tubby of vivid renderings (even though it’s in black-and-white) of very familiar Dickens characters, Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Small Tim among them. Reginald Owen does a friendly job as Scrooge – showing both his stingy ill-humor and his awakening as a human being — although one wonders how worthy better the movie might have been if Lionel Barrymore had reprised his regular radio role as Scrooge here. (This was apparently the current device of MGM, but Barrymore had health problems that prevented this participation. And he eventually played his beget version of Scrooge in “It’s a Extraordinary Life,” of course.) Noted character actor Gene Lockhart is a bit more portly as Bob Cratchit than I had imagined that character, but he does his usual huge job of portraying the downtrodden Cratchit who maintains a superior humor while enduring Scrooge’s abuse. Lockhart’s real-life wife and kids, including young June Lockhart, are featured as other members of the Cratchit family, with the exception of Dinky Tim, who is played by Terry Kilburn. Kilburn is a bit too cute for my taste, but I have to admit that Dickens seems to have intended Tim to be cute. Ann Rutherford, often seen as Andy Hardy’s girlfriend Polly Benedict, does a graceful job as the ghost of Christmas past (although the blonde hair gives her a very different search for) . Others have pointed out that MGM lop and changed the account a excellent bit, but if you can overlook that, this is a nice, brisk telling of a gigantic epic.

The extras on these discs are outstanding, although perhaps not as numerous as those for some new movies. All include the movie trailers; the “Christmas Carol” trailer is especially tantalizing, because Lionel Barrymore appears to tout his friend Reginald Owen as Scrooge, apparently to abet audiences gain over their disappointment that Barrymore himself wasn’t playing the role himself after appearing in it famously on radio.

The “Christmas In Connecticut” disc includes the outstanding Oscar-winning short film “Star In The Night,” which brings the Nativity sage to a 1940s diner/motel in the desert. Within a compelling re-telling of that broken-down narrative, this film helps the viewer understand how the spirit of Christmas applies in the unusual era – easily one of the best short films I’ve ever seen.

The “Christmas Carol” disc includes “Jackie Cooper’s Christmas Party,” in which the child star (“The Champ,” “Like Island”) hosts a party for his friends on an MGM soundstage, with Clark Gable, Marie Dressler, Wallace Beery, and other stars serving dinner for the kids. (Spy for a very funny Santa Claus played by – well, I won’t kill the surprise.) The disc also has a short film of young Judy Garland singing “Restful Night” with a choir, and the Oscar-nominated cartoon “Peace on Earth” (1939), which laments man’s self-destructive warring instinct (and which was remade in the 50s as “Friendly Will To Men” – both with a message that’s level-headed directly relevant) .

“Boys Town” is accompanied by its enjoy less-famous sequel, “Men Of Boys Town,” so you’re getting two features on one disc. You also accumulate a featurette about the true Boys Town (which smooth exists and has expanded beyond its new Nebraska space), as well as a 1939 radio program promoting the movie with Tracy and Rooney.

The Classic Holiday Collection, as its name suggests, is one that will please anyone who loves classic movies or the holiday season. To follow up on this Christmas gift to us, Warners should effect out a second volume with some of its other holiday classics!

What a ruin of money! Mind you, I win almost anything that has a Disney Princess on it for my daughter, but this one tops everything! My 5 year used refuses to gawk it and doesn’t like Ariel and Jasmine anymore! The princess’s introductions to their stories are very choppy and poorly edited. The Cinderella record is handsome but the Ariel and Jasmine ones are NOT! Basically, if Ariel laughs, she destroys everything around her (her home, for one!) and Jasmine gradually turns into this really scary looking snake, like a cobra with a hood and tongue and all! I don’t know what possessed Disney to exercise THESE stories, but I know I will not win anymore ‘Princess Stories’ DVDs. I unruffled will assume all sorts of princess stuff in the future and employ enough money on Disney that I should possess at least half of the company, but I reflect everyone should gain a heavenly warning to cease away from this one!

My daughter is now into the Disney princess thing, and we plan this video might be a nice expansion of the disney universe based on the three “princesses” mentioned on the cover: Ariel, Cinderella, and Jasmine. Turn out this is yet another bustle job from disney to occupy people’s money away.

Disney is a marketing juggernaut and they’ve figured out that their characters have such strong appeal that merchandising them in many ways is immensely capable. And I don’t blame them. However, this includes releasing countless numbers of DVDs aimed at the children that are really nothing more than mixing and splices of previous cartoons. In the disney princess series, it’s basically a focus on the female characters from different movies.

This DVD is #3 in the series and is themed “the inner beauty”, a determined message, but in reality very loosely tied to the stories on this DVD.

The first fable is about Arial, the Itsy-bitsy Mermaid. This is a “unusual” cartoon (not splices of the movie) and clearly gross budget animation; about on the level of a Saturday morning cartoon. The tale is ok, and is about what I’d expet for this product. Arial, Sebastin, and Flounder return in this narrative and have an encounter with a magical “blow fish” which casts an poor spell on her, making abominable things happen whenever she laughs. Long memoir short, she helps turn around the terrible fish to be sure and laughter is once again superior to partake in. The most clear designate was an novel accept about laughing by Sebastin along the same lines as “Under the Sea” net from the modern The Petite Mermaid.

The second tale is about Cinderella who recaps her acquire memoir… which turns out to literally be splices of the movie Cinderella turned into video clips and video stills bordered by a cheasy graphic border. Seriously, nothing original is added other than a womans thunder that sounds like Cinderella summary narrating her possess memoir. My 2.5 year faded daughter, whose accepted movie happens to be Cinderella, actually got bored with this, as the fresh movie Cinderella is so powerful better. It seemed like even she was thinking, “what’s the point? ”

The third anecdote is about Jasmine. Essentially a further adventures cartoon, this one is poorer quality than the Arial one and REALLY reaks of a dreadful Saturday morning cartoon. This one is about Jasmine encountering an injurious spirit who tricks her into taking a magic potion (salve) that takes away her outward beauty by turning her into a broad cobra snake, but of course Aladdin loves her anyways and lawful appreciate prevails. This one is downright creepy and scary, especially for my 2.5 year musty. Disney could have written a epic accomplishing the same thing without the demons and freakishly scary cobra-Jasmine. At one point, snake-Jasmine actually poisons Aladdin accidentally with one of her many spicy spines and he almost dies. What were they thinking?!? This is a PRINCESS VIDEO yet this narrative is so murky and snide, and left me with a really abominable taste.

I’m extremely disappointed with this video. I had expected a more light hearted and dreamy and at least new record expansions about the three princesses, and instead they gave us Saturday morning cartoon about Arial (with a reasonable attempt at a recent get), a ridiculous splice and dice of the current Cinderella movie (and if you already enjoy Cinderella, this 2nd record is pointless), and a freakish shaded chronicle bewitching Jasmine and Aladdin.

We have other Disney videos besides the Classics including Disney Christmas specials, and even the “education” series (which was a splice and dice itself) . But this Princess #3 stories was not only a splice and dice, the extinguish result is unfavorable and doesn’t even follow the Princess theme very well at all. Gigantic thumbs down on this one and I hope no one else wastes their money on it.

So after plenty of lobbying and the internet community speaking out, DuckTales’ Pilot, Adore of the Golden Suns is making its plan onto DVD, one Volume too gradual, but certainly nonetheless, mammoth news. Not in its novel movie format, but the 5 parts that went out into syndication after the first urge of season one. Disc One includes, Worship of The Golden Suns (Split into 5 parts), Succor to the Klondike, Horse Scents and Scrooge’s Pet. Disc Two includes The Firefly Fruit Contest episodes (1-4), Merit-Time Adventure, The Golden Fleecing, Ducks of the West and The Time Teasers. Disc three finished the plot with Aid Out in the Outback, Raiders of the Lost Harp, The Accurate Duck, Scroogerello, Double-O-Duck, Luck o’ the Dcuks, Duckworths Revolt and the 2 yarn episode Magica’s Magic Mirror and Rob Me Out of the Ballgame.

As a child of the fifties, I grew up reading humorous books. Though I was more a fan of the superhero variety, I occasionally read the “lighter” titles, which included such fare as “Archie” and Carl Banks’ “Uncle Scrooge.” It is the latter that served as the basis for the series from which this compilation is culled.

Premiering as a weekday expose in 1987, “Disney’s DuckTales” brought a current dimension to television animation. Though primarily geared for a young audience, the expose had enough in jokes and historical/pop culture references to appeal to the children’s parents. Well done parodies of “Star Streak,” the “Indiana Jones” series, John Wayne, the Kentucky Derby, James Bond, fairy tales and world mythology, and even primetime’s biggest soap opera, “Dallas,” can be found among this 24-episode collection.

The highlight, of course, is “Savor of the Golden Suns,” the five-part pilot that introduces Uncle Scrooge and tells how he became guardian to nephew Donald’s younger charges, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The episode also shows the transition of Scrooge from miserly to a bit more compassionate to others as a result of his new-found “parenthood.”

In addition to these characters, there is the introduction of Mrs. Beakly, the nanny, and her grandchild, Webby; the butler, Duckworth; inventor, Gyro Gearloose; erstwhile pilot Lauchpad McQuack; the boys’ friend, Doofus; and McDuck’s chief financial nemesis, Flintheart Glomgold. Filling out the cast are the recurring appearances of The Beagle Boys and sorceress Magica De Spell.

Voicing these characters is a talented array of teach actors. Leading the pack is Alan Young (“Uncle Scrooge”), primarily known for his memorable turn as Wilbur Post, owner of the “Mr. Ed” of television fame. Young brings incandescent life to the sometimes cantankerous yet lovable duck millionaire. Terence McGovern has fun as “Launchpad,” while Russi Taylor has a field day providing all the voices of the younger ducklings.

Hal Smith, forever “Otis” on the extinct “Andy Griffith Reveal,” assays the duel roles of Gyro and Glomgold, as well as other incidental characters. Jim Cummings and Peter Cullen are other actors that bring train to a myriad of characters.

And the legendary June Foray, the remark tedious “Rocky the Flying Squirrel,” utilizes her distinctive pipes as “Magica De Spell.”

Besides the colossal writing, Ron Jones, composer of arguably the best collect in “Star Trek: The Next Generation’s” history (“The Best of Both Worlds, Parts I and II”) is responsible for the racy music that would be traditional throughout the series hurry. Great better than the usual fare that accompanies television ‘toons, Jones deserved an Emmy for his compositions.

In all, “DuckTales” belongs in the cartoon hall of fame as a prime example of a program that is definitely “family expedient” and non-condescending to diminutive fry, stimulating as well as provocative.

I have often conception upon viewing the prequel trilogy, the intervening years between the new and the novel. To be determined, most of the criticisms of the novel trilogy are adult in nature. We issue ill of wooden dialogue and acting, convoluted storylines, and themes that aren’t upright to the nature of the purity of science fiction. I was only five when Episode IV was release, so my only criticism of that particular film came in the develop of whining to my folks that I couldn’t notice it again and again and again.

My point is this: George Lucas has his flaws, most of which are related to him being out of the director’s chair for more than 20 years before embarking on his unique trilogy toy, but I consider, more importantly, that we as a filmgoing populace have changed as well. The fact that Lucas has been able to bridge that gap successfully (while telling the narrative backwards, to boot!) demonstrates the man’s spacious talents. Perfect? Far from it, but damned spicy, nonetheless.

Which brings me to the crown jewel of the prequel trilogy. “Revenge of the Sith” is the second best film of all six, ranking only slack “The Empire Strikes Befriend” in terms of depth an substance. The acting is better and the writing, if not terrific, is helped by a game cast and a hump that doesn’t allow you to get your breath. Hayden Christiansan, for the most portion, owns this role, displaying an adult gravity he was unable to expose in the dramatically clunky “Attack of the Clones” The rage, frustration, and dismay contrasted with Anakin’s heroism and confidence in the face of battle made for a complex character who you found yourself rooting for despite the story’s preordained outcome.

The special effects, as usual, are outstanding, but for the most section support the film this time. There are points during the first two prequel films that you feel Lucas and Co. are simply showing off some of their knowing modern toys, but in this film there is a more concrete sense of purpose.

Dramatically the film belongs to Ian McDiarmid. His performance creates the factual balance of charm and villiany and by doing so makes Anakin’s turn all the more believable even though the turn itself feels a tad sudden. In fact, I dare say that I enjoyed McDiarmid more when he was under the guise of Palpatine than when he fully reveals himself as Sidious. The scene during the opera is one of the substantial dramatic highpoints of any of the six movies.

As for the flaws: determined, there were a few. I would like to have seen a more galvanizing series of events leading to Anakin’s turn, perhaps some more perceived betrayals at the hands of the Jedi Council? I would like to have seen a more fleshed out performance by Natalie Portman, who seems to be more of an afterthought than a character in the third film. (On a side designate, Portman is a terrific actress, but was, in this humble reviewer’s belief, the most ill-served of the entire cast by the clunky dialogue that pervades all three films.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Wars – Episode III, Revenge of the Sith! Click Here

The one section to which I didn’t object that seemed to be the bane of many Star Wars fans is the scene inviting the birth of Vader. I liked the allusions to “Frankenstein” for that is what Vader’s tale eventually becomes in the following trilogy: a search for his humanity, noteworthy like Mary Shelley’s creation.

I also didn’t have a jam with Vader’s reaction to the fact he’d caused Padme’s death. You have to remember that, despite the fact that he now has James Earl Jones’ booming negate, he’s aloof Anakin and calm very young. It does sound unique, I admit, but it’s serene completely in character. You also have to remember that Darth Vader will have a pleasant 20 to 25 years to complete his transformation into the cool, remorseless killing machine we arrive to know and savor in Episode IV.

In all, “Revenge of the Sith” does a terrific job of tying things together in a manner that harkens befriend to when I was a child watching Star Wars for the first time. It’s impossible, as an adult, to completely dismiss some of the flaws in the later films, but Episode III definitely comes cessation. It is a exquisite part of escapist filmaking that has heart, soul, and character and I would highly recommend it to anyone, Star Wars fan or no, looking for a fun time at the movies.

I never really understood what was so enormous about the Star Wars movies when I was growing up. I was born after the originals were released, so I was never a portion of that “culture” that Star Wars is. I saw them when I was around 13 or 14 and fell asleep before the extinguish of all three. I never had the desire to really peek them again until Phantom Menace came out. I didn’t sight it in theaters, but I watched it, liked it, and waited for the next one to approach out. I liked Episode II a lot better (I have to admit that half of that appreciation is because I appreciate Haydn), but I serene didn’t really “obtain” Star Wars. Well, I saw the triler for the third film, and I conception it looked really salubrious. I also idea it was going to be sunless, but I didn’t realize that I was going to scream all the plan home from the movie theater! After the experience of seeing Episode III, I now finally understand what Star Wars is all about, and I esteem it! This movie perfectly ties the two trilogies together. It is so emotionally noteworthy. I know a lot of people say that George Lucas can’t write diologue and can’t protest anything but action scenes, but I completely disagree. Though some lines are a bit corny, each scene is treated with a enormous amount of care and sets up your emotions so that you react to distinct dim cercumstances (I’m clear you know what I’m refering to) in a very personal blueprint. I have watched all three of the first series since seeing Episode III, and I delight in them so mighty, because now I understand!

Okay, a four hour gangster movie is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially when the pacing is absolutely glacial and DeNiro and Woods aren’t on-screen for about half that time because of a childhood flashback that’s longer than some chunky movies. But, if you hold this movie on the terms director Sergio Leone sets, it’s a richly rewarding cinemeatic experience. I’ve heard the film described as “an opium dream of a gangster movie” and the pacing seems to interpret such a response. But it’s boring and richly detailed, and a tiny uncommon at times, for very advantageous reasons that pay off in spades by the film’s emotionally substantial (though slightly anti-climactic} finale.

Despite what can seem like turgidness on first viewing, this film is likely to stick to your ribs and merit declare screenings. DeNiro smolders throughout, while James Woods delivers a teriffic scenery-chewing performance. The yarn is friendship (and betrayal, of course) –or is it Romulus and Remus? Greek tragedy, perhaps? Godfather parts 1 and 2 rolled into one film? Yes, and more. And viewers familliar with Leone only through his spagetti westerns are in for a surprise: Leone is a world-class film-maker here, profitable of handsome beauty and cruelty, often within the same frame.

Does it really need to be this unimaginative? Does the flashback to childhood need to be almost and hour and a half long (don’t worry–it’s engaging enough in its have good to retain you from noticing)? Does the the chronology need to be so screwy? Does that darn phone need to ring so long? Absolutely.

Fans of Woods, DeNiro, Leone, or gangster movies in general canot afford to pass this film up. The supporting cast, especially the young actors playing the gang members in thier childhood, is also consistently stellar. Best viewed on a cool cool afternoon when you’ve got plenty of time. Opium not provided.

“Once Upon A Time In America” is director, Sergio Leone’s sparkling myth of organized crime and the destruction it unleashes into the lives of four life-long friends. Robert DeNiro headlines a cast of gigantic talent that includes Joe Pesci, Treat Williams and James Woods. When this film first premiered in 1984 it was 229 minutes. However, the subject matter was considered so violent and ghastly, and the crawl so methodically uninteresting that nearly 40 minutes were excised for general exhibition, rendering the narrative line practically incomprehensible. I am cheerful to say that this current 2-disc space at last gives us the epic as it was originally intended, bulky of robust characterizations, appealing action sequences and filled with the sort of memorable moments that have reminded me why we all go to the movies – to be entertained (not overwhelmed with way-too-many, ultra-slick digital effects!) .

Warner Brothers 2 disc area does have its drawbacks. First, the movie itself is spread over two discs and, there is no polite contrivance to say it, the interruption is obtrusive. The atomize happens factual in the middle of a crucial scene. Interruption aside, the DVD is marred by noteworthy film grain and a bit of digital grit that execute most of the images digitally harsh instead of creamy serene. Many scenes offer noteworthy clarity and depth while others, mostly night time or sad scenes suffer from a loss of handsome detail that disappears into a haze of undistinguished muddy blacks, browns and blues. Edge enhancement, pixelization, radiant and aliasing are explain throughout the transfer, sometimes distractingly so. The audio is remixed 5.1 and is strident and lacking in tonal bass.

Extras: Lovely noteworthy a retrospective and audio commentaries. Some toss away stuff. That’s it, that’s all!

BOTTOM LINE: For its sheer mastery in the art of cinema tale telling, I recommend “Once Upon A Time In America”. The transfer leaves something to be desired but hey, it’s nice to have this American classic attend in the spotlight and, finally, in its bulky running time.
